Theatre Charlotte holds auditions and crew sign-up for
”Little Shop of Horrors”
March 24 and 25, 2008 at 7:00 pm

The show is directed and choreographed by Ron Chisholm, who has directed and/or choreographed over 130 shows for Charlotte Rep., Opera Carolina, Children’s Theatre, Spirit Square and Theatre Charlotte, most recently, last season for “Smokey Joe’s Café”. The music director is Ellen Robison, who was music director for Opera House Theatre Co. in Wilmington for thirteen years and is now the Minister of Program at Myers Park United Methodist Church.  She was music director for last year’s “Smokey Joe’s Café”.

Roles are available for an ethnically diverse cast of; five men ages 20 – 60; four women, ages 16 – 40, and one offstage singing voice of Audrey II.  Puppeteers are also needed.  All auditionees should come prepared with a “Broadway-style” song and the sheet music, and come dressed comfortably, as some dance will be taught.

A down-and-out skid row floral assistant becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for fresh blood.  Soon “Audrey II” grows into an ill-tempered, foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore who offers him fame and fortune in exchange for feeding its growing appetite. 

One of the longest-running Off-Broadway shows of all time, thanks to a score by the songwriting team of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, who redefined the animated musical film with Disney’s “The Little Mermaid,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “Aladdin.”  Tuneful and hilarious, with tongue planted firmly in cheek, this affectionate spoof of 1950s sci-fi movies never fails to entertain.

Theatre Charlotte is the city’s oldest arts organization.  Since its founding in 1927, the Theatre has provided opportunities for actors, directors, ushers, technicians and audience members to create and enjoy theatre. Utilizing the talents of the area’s volunteer force, Theatre Charlotte produces a five-show Mainstage season of musicals, comedies and dramas, as well as smaller-scale productions in an informal atmosphere.  During the past eighty years, these factors have combined to create a reputation for excellence unrivaled in the Southeast.
