Collaborative Arts is pleased to present Maltby and Shire’s Closer Than Ever, playing February 28 - March 15 at the Duke Power Theatre in Spirit Square. Performances take place Thursday through Saturday at 8pm, with one 2:30pm matinee on Sunday, March 9, and one 8pm show on Wednesday, March 12. Tickets are $20.
If modern life had a soundtrack, it would be a lot like this funny and touching musical revue. Closer Than Ever explores life, love, careers, and family through the music and lyrics of Richard Maltby, Jr. and David Shire, the award-winning talents behind shows such as Miss Saigon, Baby¸and Ain’t Misbehavin’.
Each musical number is its own story. You’ll meet a man who spends a night on a rooftop, in the rain, wondering What Am I Doin’? (falling madly in love, of course). Then there’s Miss Byrd, an unassuming real estate agent with a very saucy secret life. In Fathers of Fathers, you’ll share the joys and challenges of fatherhood, from both sides of the generational divide. Have you ever ended a relationship with the question, ‘Can we still be friends?’ You Want To Be My Friend? is one scorned woman’s hilarious answer.
Directed by Elise Wilkinson, with musical direction by Marty Gregory, Closer Than Ever features the talents of Joseph Klosek, Lisa Smith, Jerry Colbert, Amy Van Looy, and Dan Brunson.
