The Actor’s Crib presents The Chuckleheads

The Actor’s Crib presents The Chuckleheads, a Night of Competitive and Audience Interactive Improvisational Comedy on Friday, October 26th at 8pm at the Actor’s Theatre of Charlotte

Charlotte, NC – October 10, 2007 – The Actor’s Crib, a Charlotte improvisation theatre troupe, proudly presents The Chuckleheads, a night of competitive and audience interactive improvisational comedy on Friday, October 26th at 8p at the  Actor’s Theatre of Charlotte.  Admission is $5.

The Chuckleheads show offers a unique blend of fast, funny, smart and musical improvisational comedy that is appropriate for everyone.  Two teams battle it out in competitive improv games. Points are then awarded by the audience.  At the end of the night a victorious team is crowned based on the audience vote totals.

The audience is not only a spectator in The Chuckleheads show.  They get to be a major part of the action.  They are honorary members of one of the improv teams, they get to offer suggestions for the scene locations and other game options, and they will even participate in selected games.

Actor’s Crib President and Director Scott Pacitti offers his suggestion for a full night of festivities, “It would be cool if the audience got dressed up in their Halloween costumes, hit happy hour before our show, enjoyed our show, and then continued partying Uptown for some late night fun.”

Mr. Pacitti is excited about the venue for this Actor’s Crib/The Chuckleheads show.  “We are thrilled to be performing at the Actor’s Theatre of Charlotte.  Two hundred audience members (the capacity of the Actor’s Theatre) at the show would be awesome.  The energy would be palpable.  We as performers definitely feed off that energy and the enthusiasm generated from a big group.  And since this in improv comedy, the more people in the crowd, the more opportunity for interesting and fun suggestions to use in the scenes and games.”

The Actor’s Theatre of Charlotte is located at 650 E. Stonewall Street, Charlotte, NC 28202 Alcoholic and non-alcoholic refreshments are available before and during the show.  There is plenty of free parking at the theatre and in the parking lot in the adjacent building.  For detailed directions, go to

Los Angeles-based The Actor’s Lab Opens Charlotte Office

Charlotte -

CHARLOTTE – J.D. Lewis, one of the most well-respected and highly-recommended acting coaches and teachers in Los Angeles, has expanded his company, The Actor’s Lab, with an office in Charlotte.

Lewis, who recently moved to Charlotte with his two sons, has leased a space in Hart-Witzen Gallery (www.hartwitzengallery.com) at 136 E. 36th Street in NoDa and plans to start teaching this fall.

“I felt like Charlotte was the perfect spot to expand The Actor’s Lab,” Lewis says. “With its blossoming cultural and artistic community, it is also in close proximity to Wilmington’s film industry. In addition, it offers a great place to raise my two kids.”

Established in 1990 by J.D. Lewis, The Lab has been the home to many working actors in Los Angeles. Classes focus not only on the craft of acting, but also on the business aspects of pursuing an acting career. In addition to being a well-known acting school, The Actor’s Lab houses an internationally award-winning theater company.

The most recent project from The Actor’s Lab is AmerWrecka, written and directed by J.D. Lewis. AmerWrecka had its international premiere at the renowned Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland, in August 2005. With five-star reviews and the buzz from the Festival, it became one of the most sought after plays for 2006. Fifteen members of The Actor’s Lab traveled to Limerick, Ireland, where AmerWrecka headlined The Unfringed Limerick Festival. With sold-out houses and standing ovations, it continues its momentum by going into pre-production for the feature film version and also a theatrical run in New York City.

“He is the guru of acting coaches in this town. Studying with J.D. Lewis, you’ll be most certainly on the road to success,” said David Kirkpatrick, President Paramount Pictures and Touchstone Pictures

“If you have the chance to study with J.D. Lewis, it will change the course of your career,” said Gary Dontzig, Executive Producer of hit television shows “Suddenly Susan” and “Murphy Brown.”

“If you are lucky enough to get into this class, you have a real shot at learning the craft from a master,” said Tom Hahn, Vice President of Talent/Head of Casting, Tri-Star/Columbia Pictures

Children’s Theatre of Charlotte Presents “The Commedia Pied Piper”

Children’s Theatre of Charlotte Presents “The Commedia Pied Piper”

Children’s Theatre of Charlotte’s Resident Touring Company, the Tarradiddle Players, gives a hilarious new twist to the legend of the Pied Piper of Hamelin in “The Commedia Pied Piper” (Oct. 26-Nov. 4). Told in the slapstick acting style of Commedia dell’arte, Lane Riosley’s animal-filled take on an originally tragic story includes a happy ending.

With just a few quick costume and prop changes, four actors play a full town’s worth of human and animal characters. Their funny antics, lightning-quick switches and play-within-a-play structure all come from the Commedia dell’arte tradition, an Italian form of improvisational theater that began in the 16th century.

“This version of the Pied Piper legend pays tribute to the enchanting nature of comedy,” comments director Jill Bloede. “Like the Pied Piper charmed the rats of Hamelin town, I think this Tarradiddle Players production will charm audiences.”

“The Commedia Pied Piper” stars the 2007-08 Tarradiddle Players company: Darlene Parker-Black, Ashby Blakely, Leslie Ann Giles and Stephen Seay. In addition to appearances on Children’s Theatre’s MainStage, this professional four-person troupe spreads the joy of live theatre across the Southeast. This season, the Tarradiddle Players will travel from Virginia to South Carolina, performing in schools, community centers and towns big and small for audiences who might otherwise never see a live play. Meet the Tarradiddle Players and hear stories from the road at an audience talkback following the opening night performance on October 26.

Theatre Raises the Stakes on DRACULA!!!

CAST (carolina actors studio theatre) is paused for the moment, holding high in the air a large mallet poised to drive home its October presentation of DRACULA.  The pause, like in all good theatrical scripts is just a temporary hold in the action, one that heightens the suspense to be followed by CAST’s plunging into the heart of Bram Stoker’s classic melodrama – raising its splintered stake by using not one, but both spaces in its uniquely designed theatre located only 4 minutes from Uptown Charlotte!

Teaming up with Amy Morris of the Morris Costume dynasty – a Charlotte make-up, costume and haunted house fixture since 1970, CAST continues it’s local collaborations including partnerships that provide dinner discounts at Lulu restraraunt – providing some very, very red wine just for this vampiric occasion, Free Fuel Pizza Friday’s – for those patrons who run late and just need a free “bite” before the show and a very special element: “Magic Matinees” – Sunday performances with free magic and illusion features!

Derived for the Stoker novel, CAST’s DRACULA promises both to tickle your funny bone, hold you breathless, and of course make your heart skip an occasional beat!

DRACULA OPENS October 18th and plays thru November 1st.  Thursday’s are “Pay What You Can Nights.”  All shows are at 8:00PM with Sunday matinees at 2:30PM.  Come early and have your fortunes told or attend a séance.  Tickets are $22 for Adults and $20 for Students and Seniors.  Some performances are already sold out so reservations are strongly encouraged.

Free Beer and Cheap Theatre!

Collaborative Arts is presenting the regional premiere of The Sublet Experiment by Ethan Youngerman October 4 – 28. We had such a great time with our first “comedy in a condo” (last year’s Bad Dates) that we are once again transforming a living room into an intimate performance venue. The Sublet Experiment takes place in real apartments in various Charlotte neighborhoods. Actors will adapt the play to each new space, presenting audiences with a slightly different experience each week.

In this “cunning and swift-footed” (Associated Press) romantic comedy, Eric places an ad seeking to sublet his apartment in exchange for “a physical arrangement”. Melanie answers the ad and we soon learn that Eric is not exactly who he seems to be – and neither is Melanie. The ensuing twists and turns offer a hilarious glimpse into our ongoing search for identity and love.

The Sublet Experiment offers a unique experience for the audience, seated amidst the action in the apartment where the play takes place, and “taps into the thrills of theatre’s psychological voyeurism” (NY Times). Seating is limited and will range from 30-40 seats, depending on performance location.

Directed by Joe Copley, The Sublet Experiment features Charlotte actors Kristen Jones as Melanie, Lee Thomas as Eric, Jim Yost as Harry, and Patrick Howsare as The Man.

**SPECIAL OFFER FOR MTA MEMBERS**

MTA members are invited to join us opening night or the first Friday for 1/2 price. That means the Oct 4 and Oct 5 shows (both at 8pm) are only $10! And we’ll sweeten the deal… opening night features a reception before and after the show with complimentary hors d’oeuvres and beer/wine. That’s right, free beer, free food, a hilarious comedy, and you get to snoop around a stranger’s apartment… all for $10! If you come on Friday the 5th, we’ll still give you some free snacks, and definitely a fun show, but the free booze will be history.

Children’s Theatre of Charlotte Presents The Ice Cream Man

Children’s Theatre of Charlotte’s Drama for Healthy Living Program proudly presents a FREE public performance of “The Ice Cream Man” on Tuesday, October 9, at 7:30 pm in the Wachovia Playhouse at ImaginOn. Performed by a cast of professional actors, this play is about the effects of substance abuse and will tour all Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) eighth grade classrooms during the fall of 2007.

Children’s Theatre originally commissioned “The Ice Cream Man” in response to a request from CMS for a program addressing substance abuse in a relevant and compelling way. Today all CMS eighth graders attend a performance of the play and participate in follow-up workshops led by trained actor/facilitators. Designed to help students identify the warning signs of substance abuse and learn about the power of making choices, the Alcohol & Substance Abuse Prevention Program follows the Health Education Curriculum and is presented at no cost to the public schools.

“I think this program is one of the best ways to inform students,” commented a teacher whose classroom participated in the Alcohol & Substance Abuse Prevention Program. “It gives them a chance to see how problems seem in real life situations as opposed to reading from textbooks.”

The public performance is free, but seating is limited. Call 704-973-2800 to reserve seats. “The Ice Cream Man” is recommended for ages 12 and up.

The Ice Cream Man is made possible by the Mecklenburg County ABC Board, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, The Betty J. and J. Stanley Livingstone Foundation and the US Airways Education Foundation. This program is also funded by a grant from ArtsTeach. Children’s Theatre of Charlotte is supported by the Annual Fund Drive of the Arts & Science Council, Charlotte-Mecklenburg, Inc., ArtsTeach, and the North Carolina Arts Council, an agency funded by the State of North Carolina and the National Endowment for the Arts.
