Last Friday night I had the pleasure of viewing another outstanding production
by Hickory Community Theatre. I say another because “I Love You, You’re Perfect,
Now Change” falls into the same category.
It’s no wonder that of the 2000 plus community theatre applicants for the rights
to perform “Chicago”, H C T was one of 20 that were granted permission.
The set was eye-popping, the lighting was spot-on (pun intended), the
choreography and direction were both excellent, and “what a cast”.
I have to apologize for not having their names as my playbill got trashed in error,
however, the woman who played Velma Kelly was on top of her game. She won
an NCTC award for “I Love You….Now Change” and she delivered another
dynamite performance. Roxy Hart and Mama Morton also deserve a special
mention. There were a few “opening night” bobbles but not enough to deter me from
thoroughly enjoying the production.
If you’re anywhere near Hickory in the next few weeks…….. don’t miss it.
