QCTC Presents Manuscript

Queen City Theatre Company presents Paul Grellong’s off-Broadway hit suspense-drama “Manuscript“ about lies, depict, sexual manipulation and exploitation.  October 11-27, 8pm, Duke Power Theatre, Charlotte, NC.

It’s Christmas break and three friends have come together in a Brooklyn Heights brownstone bedroom to celebrate the holidays.   David, Chris, and Elizabeth appear to have it all: they are young, wealthy, successful, and each one has a secret…a secret that in two days will leave one of them destroyed and the others changed forever.   The cause of destruction will be a stolen, unpublished manuscript.  One of the three will do anything to possess the manuscript, and through sexual manipulation, lies, deceit, and exploitation…perhaps they will.   But the owner of the manuscript isn’t necessarily the winner of the game.

The Queen City Theatre Company production of Manuscript stars:  Kristian Wedolowski (Chris Ferrando) John Wray (David Lewis) and Heidy Ludden (Elizabeth Hawkins).

Manuscript will be directed by Queen City Theatre Company Artistic Director, Glenn T. Griffin.

Manuscript opens at The Duke Power Theatre on October 11, 2007 and runs through October 27th.   Show times are at 8.00 pm.  Tickets are $16.00 and advance purchase for general seating is encouraged.  Tickets are available online at www.queencitytheatre.com or (704) 372-1000:

“A twisty dark comedy about ambition and ruthlessness, with a fancifully elaborate Hitchcockian revenge plot up its sleeve” - Variety.

“Schemes, double crosses, literary ambitions and cool, calculation manipulation:  Manuscript is like Deathtrap for the prep school set….enough plot twists to keep the audience guessing and engrossed.” – New York Newsday

“Hip, witty and wholly unpredictable.” – Time Out.

“A Wonderfully entertaining comedy filled with crisp, witty dialogue…never misses a beat…the characters exchange one zinger after another while plotting their deception.” – Associate Press.

Manuscript is the second production for the new Queen City Theatre Company.

“It’s My Kind of “Play……. Chicago Is”

by  Dad Warbucks

Last Friday night I had the pleasure of viewing another outstanding production

by Hickory Community Theatre.  I say another because “I Love You, You’re Perfect,

Now Change” falls into the same category.

It’s no wonder that of the 2000 plus community theatre applicants for the rights

to perform “Chicago”, H C T was one of 20 that were granted permission.

The set was eye-popping, the lighting was spot-on (pun intended), the

choreography and direction were both excellent, and “what a cast”.

I have to apologize for not having their names as my playbill got trashed in error,

however, the woman who played Velma Kelly was on top of her game.  She won

an NCTC award for “I Love You….Now Change” and she delivered another

dynamite performance.  Roxy Hart and Mama Morton also deserve a special

mention.  There were a few “opening night” bobbles but not enough to deter me from

thoroughly enjoying the production.

If you’re anywhere near Hickory in the next few weeks…….. don’t miss it.

Piedmont Players Theatre, Salisbury, NC will hold auditions for Keep On The Sunny Side

The Carter family recorded over 250 songs from 1927 to 1943 and dramatically influenced country, bluegrass, R&B, gospel and folk music.  With timeless songs such as “Will The Circle Be Unbroken” and “Are You Lonesome Tonight?,”  the life and career of one of country music’s pioneer families are brought to stage.  Spanning from 1914 when A.P. Carter first met Sara Dougherty, the musical covers the highs and lows of the family’s music and relationships from the early days when they gathered together in homes and churches to their later successes.  A.P. and Sara’s love, and the strains and stresses placed on their relationship by their success, are showcased through the musical.

Auditions will be held on Monday and Tuesday, September 24 and 25 at 7:00 PM on the 3rd floor of the Meroney Theater.  Principal cast includes A.P. Carter, Sara Carter, Maybelle Carter, Janette Carter, and several other male and female roles.  Please bring a prepared song.

Rehearsals typically run Monday- Friday from 7-10 PM.

Theatre Charlotte holds auditions for The Heidi Chronicles

Theatre Charlotte announces open auditions for The Heidi Chronicles, by Wendy Wasserstein.
The audition will be at 7:00 PM, September 23 & 24, at Theatre Charlotte, 501 Queens Rd, Charlotte.
The play is directed by Julie Janorschke, who directed Brighton Beach Memoirs at Theatre Charlotte last season.

Funny, touching and written with sensitivity, the play is a moving examination of the progress of a generation, from the socially and politically activist sixties to the success-oriented eighties – a time during which the status of American women underwent profound change.  Comprised of a series of inter-related scenes, the play traces the coming of age of Heidi Holland, a successful art historian, as she tries to find her bearings in a rapidly changing world.  A significant and celebrated play; it was a winner of the 1989 Pulitzer Prize, the Tony Award, and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award.

“…a wonderful and important play.”—NY Newsday
“…witty, hilarious…not just a funny play, but a wise one…”—NY Daily News

“The Christmas Doll” will be directed by Alan Poindexter.  A brief description of the show follows:

Acclaimed playwright Joan Cushing turns her talents toward Victorian London in “The Christmas Doll”, a beautiful holiday musical for the whole family. With rich storytelling and the period detail of a Charles Dickens novel, this tale follows two orphan sisters who flee the bleak public workhouse and try to survive on the bitter, winter streets. Knowing her younger sister, Glory, will die if they cannot find food and shelter, Lucy, the older and stronger sister, kindles Glory’s imagination with stories from their happy early childhood. Inspired by her sister’s stories, Glory clings to a dream about a beautiful doll that will change their lives. When Lucy finds holiday work in a doll shop, it looks like their dreams might come true, and an act of selfless generosity leads them to discover tenderness in unexpected places. For ages 6 and up.
