MALE ACTORS NEEDED FOR THE SUBLET EXPERIMENT

Collaborative Arts announces auditions for the regional premiere of The Sublet Experiment by Ethan Youngerman. This site-specific romantic comedy about mistaken identity comes to Charlotte after a successful 6-month run in New York.

Eric is subletting his apartment to Melanie to save some money. It’s a common arrangement these days: she gets a place to stay, he gets some casual sex. But we soon learn that Eric is not exactly who he seems to be — and neither is Melanie. The ensuing twists and turns offer a hilarious glimpse into our ongoing search for identity and love.

The play will take place in the living room of apartments throughout Charlotte during October and November. Rehearsals begin in September.

Auditions take place Tuesday, August 21 and Wednesday, August 22 in the evening at Spirit Square in the Education Studio on the 2nd floor. Auditions are by appointment only. Roles are available for two men (age range 25-40). Auditions will consist of readings from the script.

All roles are compensated.

SEEKING:

Harry (mid 20’s – mid 30’s): Melanie’s secret boyfriend and co-conspirator in a complicated heist; smart, handsome, but a bit shady and somewhat dangerous

The Man (aka The Real Eric) (mid 20’s to 40): Real owner of the apartment that “Eric” is pretending to sublet; an architect (of sorts) who is appearing on a reality TV show; when he is voted off the show, he hatches an unexpected plan for revenge

Please email elise@collaborativeartstheatre.com for an appointment. Thanks for your interest.

Chris Timmons New TD at Theatre Charlotte

Ed. Note - As much as we love Biff and think he made tremendous contributions to our theatre community, we here at Charlottetheatre.net are thrilled for him to return to his alma mater as an instructor full time. We think Biff will be a fantastic teacher and wish him nothing but the best. And having worked with Chris before, I can’t think of anyone better suited in skill and temperament to replace Biff at TC. Good moves all around on this one.

Theatre Charlotte announces the hiring of Chris Timmons as Technical Director/Facility Supervisor.  He will replace Biff Edge who has taken the position of Assistant Professor/Technical Director at Winthrop University.  Chris is a graduate of Marshall University with a degree in Design and Technology and has over 50 scenic designs and 30 lighting designs to his credit.

After serving as Technical Director/Designer for the Ingersoll Dinner Theatre in Iowa, Chris moved to Charlotte where he worked as Assistant Technical Director for Charlotte Rep, eventually being promoted to Technical Director.  During this time, he also worked as a handyman/carpenter for the Discovery Channel’s hit show “Surprise by Design.”  Chris has designed sets for BareBones Theatre Group (“Suitcase…”, “Coyote Ugly”, “Crazyface”, “Five Women Wearing the Same Dress”, and “Mr. Marmalade”); Epic Arts Repertory (“The Expanding Sky”); Lagrange Point Productions (“True West”); Donna Scott Productions (“The Body Chronicles”); City Stage (“Matt and Ben”); and Davidson Community Players (“Don’t Dress for Dinner”); as well as for productions at Matthews Playhouse, Hickory Community Theatre, and off-Tryon Theatre.  Chris has been nominated for 5 Metrolina Theatre Association Awards, winning for his set design of BareBones Theatre Group’s production of “Coyote Ugly.”

At Theatre Charlotte, Chris will supervise the technical aspects of all productions, as well as design the set for “The Heidi Chronicles”, “A Christmas Carol” and “The Diary of Anne Frank.”  He will design the lighting for “Walking Across Egypt.”  Chris will join the Theatre Charlotte staff on August 15, 2007.

Theatre Charlotte, Charlotte’s Community Theatre, has been changing lives since 1927.  The oldest arts organization in Charlotte, Theatre Charlotte is a volunteer-based community theatre dedicated to creating outstanding theatre opportunities relevant to the people of the Charlotte region.

Synopsis
From Stephen Schwartz (“Godspell” and “Pippin”) and John Caird of “Les Misérables” comes a joyous and inspirational musical about parents, children and faith… not to mention centuries of unresolved family business! Freely based on the story of Genesis, “Children Of Eden” is a frank, heartfelt and often humorous examination of the age-old conflict between parents and children. Adam, Eve, Noah and the “Father” who created them deal with the headstrong, cataclysmic actions of their respective children. The show ultimately delivers a bittersweet but inspiring message: that “the hardest part of love… is letting go.”.
