Crimes of the Heart offers good old Southern storytelling.  In 1981, it was the first play to win a Pulitzer Prize before reaching Boardway and was also winner of the New York Drama Critics Circle Award.  Director Reid Leonard says, “We know these people.  We know their quirks, their frailties, their eccentricities.  They may be a bit exaggerated, but yes, we know them.  Maybe we are them.”

Crimes of the Heart is the story of the three Magrath sisters whose mother has hanged herself, and the family cat, and whose grandfather is living out his last hours at the local hospital.  Lenny, the oldest sister, is turning 40, unmarried and facing diminished prospects.  Meg, the middle sister, is back from a failed singing career on the West Coast.  Babe, the youngest sister, is out on bail after shooting her husband in the stomach.  The cast is rounded out with Chick, their cousin, Doc Porter, Meg’s old boyfriend, and Barnette Lloyd, Babe’s lawyer.
