This workshop is geared to all levels of painting, although some previous painting experience (not necessarily landscape) is preferred.  Demonstration is in oil, but experienced watercolorists are welcome.  Instruction includes small demonstrations, but the emphasis is on individual instruction.   All painting is planned for outdoors, though there is a contingency plan in the event of rain. Workshop emphasis is on color, design and depicting a sense of space.   Painters desiring to “loosen up” and quickly capture a space will find the course greatly rewarding.

Learn about the traditional three-act structure for compelling storytelling, and the basics of writing for the screen.  Discover the techniques of shot composition, camera movement, blocking, directing actors, and using compelling visuals to tell a story as you work with a team to create your own documentary.   The workshop will culminate in a screening of your work for friends and family.

Instructor:  Sidney King                                                         Age:  13-17

Saturday October 27 and November 3:  10:00am-4:00pm

Crimes of the Heart offers good old Southern storytelling.  In 1981, it was the first play to win a Pulitzer Prize before reaching Boardway and was also winner of the New York Drama Critics Circle Award.  Director Reid Leonard says, “We know these people.  We know their quirks, their frailties, their eccentricities.  They may be a bit exaggerated, but yes, we know them.  Maybe we are them.”

Crimes of the Heart is the story of the three Magrath sisters whose mother has hanged herself, and the family cat, and whose grandfather is living out his last hours at the local hospital.  Lenny, the oldest sister, is turning 40, unmarried and facing diminished prospects.  Meg, the middle sister, is back from a failed singing career on the West Coast.  Babe, the youngest sister, is out on bail after shooting her husband in the stomach.  The cast is rounded out with Chick, their cousin, Doc Porter, Meg’s old boyfriend, and Barnette Lloyd, Babe’s lawyer.

Cast members are:     Lenny Magrath – Jerla Gross

                                 Meg Magrath – Debbie Hubbard

                                 Babe Botrelle – Frances Bendert

Make Falstaff Suffer - and Fight Cancer

So this isn’t really theatre-related, but it’s my site, so there you go.

I signed up to ride in the 24 Hours of Booty bike ride next weekend.

Yep, me on a bike. Take a minute to picture that one. It’s a fundraising ride for cancer research and benefits national and local charities. I’ve pledged to ride one lap (3 miles) for every $50 donated in my name. This may have been a mistake, since I’m now on the hook for 36 miles, thanks to folks like Tom Gabbard and Chip Decker, who have made generous donations.

So if you’ve ever worked with me and want to make me suffer like I made you suffer, or if you’re an actor that I didn’t cast in a show and want to repay some of the pain I’ve given you, or if you just want to give money to help fight cancer, click here and donate. I’ll put pictures up on my other blog once I’ve recovered.
