Sordid Lives is a Southern-fried comedy about infidelity, family relationships, and sexual orientation! When Peggy, a good Christian woman, hits her head on the sink and bleeds to death after tripping over her lover’s wooden legs in a motel room, chaos erupts in Winters, Texas. While Peggy’s sisters are planning the funeral, they also have to come to terms with two cases of sexual orientating: one has an openly gay actor for a son, and their very own brother has been locked away in a mental ward for his adamant belief that he is country legend Tammy Wynette.

MTA Holds Mass Audition July 15th

Metrolina Theatre Association announces

2007 Unified Auditions and Design/Tech Interviews

To be held Sunday, July 15, 2007 at ImaginOn

(Charlotte, NC) – The Metrolina Theatre Association will hold the 2007 Unified Auditions from 1 – 8 pm at the Wachovia Theater on Sunday, July 15 at ImaginOn, home of Children’s Theatre of Charlotte.  ImaginOn is located at 300 E. Seventh Street in Charlotte.

Actors, 18 years of age or older and who will be available during the 2007-2008 theatre season, have the opportunity to audition for several local and regional, professional, semi-professional and community theatre companies, as well as independent theatre producers. Audition sessions will be held from 1 pm to 6 pm on Sunday, July 15, in the Wachovia Theater.  Stage managers, designers and theater technicians will also have an opportunity to showcase portfolios and samples of their work, and to distribute resumes to companies and producers in attendance at an ‘open house,’ to be held from 6 pm – 7:30 pm.

There is no cost to audition, but actors will need to register in advance by mail and provide one copy of their headshot and resume.  Registration deadline is July 6, 2007.  Companies, producers and casting agencies will pay a $25 fee, and must register in advance to participate. Membership in Metrolina Theatre Association is not required for participation in the unified auditions. Registration forms and additional details can be found at www.metrolinatheatre.org.

“Theatre companies in Charlotte hold auditions for specific shows,” says MTA President Lydia Arnold, “but this is the first time MTA will host unified auditions for the benefit of the entire Charlotte region.  The idea is modeled on other unifieds, hosted by theater support organizations similar to MTA, in cities like Raleigh, Asheville, Atlanta, Houston, and Philadelphia.  It’s intended to be a helpful way for artists and companies to come together in one place to see and be seen.”  MTA board members felt strongly that the project fit the MTA mission, & will be a resource for local & regional artists and the theater community.

A committee of MTA members and member organizations, including Liz Wooley (Pi Productions), Alan Poindexter and Lee LaBorde (Children’s Theatre), Dan Shoemaker (Actors Theatre of Charlotte), Stan Peal (Epic Arts Repertory Theatre), Elise Wilkinson (Collaborative Arts), Anne Lambert (BareBones/Chickspeare), Scott Pacitti (Actor’s Crib), and MTA President Lydia Arnold have been working on plans for this event for the past several months.  Liz Woodley is in charge of coordinating the details for actor registration and volunteers, working with Lee LaBorde on venue logistics.  Anne Lambert is coordinating company/producer registration.  Children’s Theatre has provided ImaginOn as the venue for the auditions in this inaugural year; Actors Theatre is providing space for a free audition preparation workshop coordinated by Scott Pacitti to be held on June 30.
